Announcing FLAME’s 2nd Open Call

FLAME will announce its second Open Call at the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) in Barcelona on 14 November 2018 at 10am. The Open Call will launch on 5 December. The call will be announced at SCEWC by Monique Calisti, CEO of Martel Innovate and impact manager for FLAME.

FLAME’s 2nd open call asks for 3rd party projects to explore edge experiences considering consumers’ desire for personalised, localised and interactive media content delivered through current and emerging human-computer interfaces used in outside spaces or between outside and inside spaces.

There are two parts to the call – one for SME trials by 3rd party projects and the other for Replicators by 3rd party projects. FLAME has eight slots available: five for SMEs and three for Replicators.

SMEs 3rd party projects

The SMEs 3rd party projects should seek to flexibly connect people at the edges through the content they create and consume in fundamentally new ways. We are looking for:

  • Localised video production, consumption and delivery trials – Innovative services for today’s devices
  • Augmented and mixed reality trials – Innovative services for future worlds
  • Mobile function offloading to the edge – Innovative services for future devices

SMEs 3rd party projects will run for 6 months, with a start date of May 2019, with available funding of 70’000 Euro each trial.

The SMEs 3rd party projects will take place in FLAME’s two host cities: Bristol, UK and Barcelona, Spain. At least two experiments in each city will be funded.

Replicator  3rd party projects

The Replicator  3rd party projects should explore the benefits for infrastructure owners in more-direct user and citizen engagement through novel experiences that are focussed on the specific needs of said replicator–user relationship. For this, projects should focus on the deployment of such platform-based offering and the bootstrapping of replicator-specific experiences on top of such platform. We are looking for:

  • Replication of FLAME at another location providing capacity for experimentation
  • Site-specific service offerings
  • Neutral-host models for service provisioning

Replicator 3rd party projects will run for 14 months from a start date of May 2019, with available funding of 130’000 Euro each replica.

The 3rd party projects of Replicators can take place in any location throughout Europe.

Eligibility

Proposers for both the SME trials and Replicators must be eligible for funding in H2020 projects and be established in an EU Member State or in an Associated Country.
